Emergency shelter PARTNERSHIP
From February 12th through February 18th. 2018, St. Mark’s again hosted the Emergency Shelter Partnership (ESP) ESP provides overnight shelter, dinner, and a packed lunch to persons in our community who are experiencing homelessness during the 5 coldest months of the year (November – March).
This year we welcomed 18 men and 2 women into our parish space each night. Volunteers prepared and served food, shared time with each other and our guests, and provided a warm place of rest to persons for whom that is not always available. Members of the parish were generous with their time, talent, and treasure donating some of each to make this year’s week a success.
Openness and welcome to those in need is at the heart of the gospel. Through our baptismal covenant we promise to serve Christ in all persons and extend fellowship as we strive for justice and peace. St. Mark’s commitment to ESP is an embodiment of that covenantal promise. The whole congregation plays a role – directly and indirectly – in allowing this covenantal bond to be fulfilled.
Through pledges and financial support for the parish as well as gifts of time, service, and friendship that foster and sustain the St. Mark’s community, everyone is part of what allows parish outreach to continue. For those who gave directly to this year’s ESP week, Thank you!
